More than 100 km long, the Landes coast stretches from north of Mimizan to the Spanish border. The Landes coast is famous for its waves, sand dunes, pine forests and endless beaches.

The north of the Landes coast, around Mimizan and Contis, is a veritable paradise for surfers. The beaches are immense and the regular waves are a delight for surfers.

The south of the Landes coast, around Hossegor and Capbreton, is famous for its world-renowned surf spots. But the Landes coast also offers some quieter beaches, ideal for swimming and relaxing with the family.

The Landes coast is also a region of pine forests. The region’s pine forests are among the largest in Europe and offer a unique atmosphere. Nature lovers can discover the local flora and fauna on forest walks or bike rides.

The Landes and its unspoilt nature

The Landes de Gascogne Regional Nature Park is a must-see. It’s ideal for nature lovers who want to discover the vast expanses of maritime pine forest, where flora and fauna are preserved. Here you can enjoy activities such as hiking, mountain biking and canoeing on the River Leyre.

History

The Landes is also a region steeped in history. Château de Roquetaillade, the region’s most famous castle, is a magnificent example of medieval architecture. Romanesque churches such as Saint-Jean-Baptiste Cathedral in Bazas are also well worth a visit.

Landes gastronomy

The Landes region offers a wealth of gastronomic delights not to be missed. Foie gras, duck confit, duck breast, Chalosse beef and ewe’s milk cheese are just some of the delights awaiting you.
